Posted May 22, 2009. The tdci mondeos have this exact problem wich ford are aware of. Not herd of such problems on the focus though. The solution on the mondeos is to fit a new crank (a think) pulley and tensioner. Also a modified EGR Valve can cause excessive knocking and black smoke from the exhaust. Ford Model: Focus 2.0 TDCi Titanium Ford Year: Really hoping this solves the problem! They are normally only used on a cold start, at least on my 1.8 engine. I have a 2008 mondeo with 1.8 Tdci (QYBA/Lynx). Apparently Mk2 Focus can have the same motor, so I also posted here, as there has been no help else where. First my EGR gave fault code P141A and then the car started to refuse igniting when motor was hot few weeks after that. I blanked the EGR with a steel plate, and the problem got little better Your Focus’s engine needs air, fuel, and spark to achieve optimum ignition . When one or more of these variables is off, it can lead to a rough idling condition. Fuel – The ideal air-to-fuel ratio is 14.7 parts air to one part fuel. Air – The air entering your car’s engine must be metered by the MAF or MAP sensor. I have this car- so far in 8 months- new battery, starter motor, dual mass flywheel( £900), glow plugs all been replaced. Now it's gone wrong again, engine cuts out whilst driving along at various speeds, engine management light flashing, poor starting from hot and cold. Now being told problem may be injectors. Set of 4 £1000 plus vat plus On a cold engine some glow plugs will run for about 1 min , with varying levels of current draw. Maximum current initially t get the plugs hot and ease starting, this will be about 40 amps, then OK Grim ..I dont like a problem like this as the last time i personally encountered this type problem it cost me a lot of money .and it was down to cylinder and ring wear inside the engine ..i.e when cold the engine starts becaue the cylinders have contracted but when warm the cylinders are expanded and because a diesel needs good compression and this effects it and makes it hard to start Ford Sync 1.1 - you’ll need a USB drive formatted as FAT32 If you search the forum you’ll see that there were some issues with the later firmware for 1.1 as hosted on the Ford servers. One of the members on here was hosting and providing a link to a functioning update. .
